LLM Policy

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to outline the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT in the development and expansion of educational content at Crisis Lab. This policy ensures that our use of AI technologies aligns with our educational goals, maintains academic integrity, and is transparent to all stakeholders including instructors, students, and partners.

Scope:

This policy applies to all educational content developed with the assistance of LLMs at Crisis Lab, including but not limited to course frameworks, instructional materials, reference materials, and any supplementary educational resources.

LLM Use in Content Development

  • Content Creation: Crisis Lab utilizes LLMs to expand on the specific knowledge and course concept note provided by expert instructors and subject matter experts. The LLMs help to generate detailed educational content based on these initial inputs.
  • Collaboration with Experts: All content generated by LLMs is based on expert-provided concept notes and basic references. This ensures that the expanded content remains accurate and aligned with the course objectives.
  • Content Curation: While the use of LLMs provides the foundation of information for course development, the content is often generic and not sufficient for publishing. All LLM generated content is reviewed via a multi-step review to include instructor curation, editing, and review, as well as Crisis Lab content controls and quality assurance to be compliant with IACET standards.

Use of Instructor's Content and Likeness

  • Protection of Instructor's Content: Content produced by instructors, including their specific instructional techniques and methodologies, will not be used for training AI models. This measure is to ensure the respect and protection of the intellectual contribution of our instructors.
  • Protection of Instructor's Likeness: Crisis Lab will not use the likeness of any instructor, including but not limited to their voice, image, or personal mannerisms, to generate AI models, voices, likenesses, etc. This commitment is part of our dedication to respecting the personal and professional identity of our instructors.

Transparency

  • Disclosure to Instructors: All participating instructors will be informed about the use of LLMs in the content development process. Instructors will be made aware of how LLMs are employed to extend their provided concept notes into comprehensive educational materials.
  • Disclosure to Learners: Transparency will be maintained with learners by disclosing the use of LLMs in course materials. This disclosure will be present in the course descriptions and introductory materials, making learners aware that AI-generated content is reviewed and verified by academic instructors.

Instructors and subject matter experts agree to the use of their provided materials for this purpose, with proper attribution where applicable.
  • Compliance with Copyright Laws: All content, including AI-generated material, will comply with applicable copyright laws and regulations, ensuring that all materials used are properly licensed or cited. For that reason, references are provided in the course materials and content.
